WELCOME to Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping in Ballykeeran, Athlone, at the centre of Ireland.
WELCOME to Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping!
Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping is set on 5 acres of wonderful countryside, directly on the shore of Lough Ree East, in the village of Ballykeeran, conveniently located less than 3 miles/5 km from Athlone town, with its many shops, cafes, bars and restaurants, visitors may enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this family-run park with its own jetty and boat-slip.
On site, there is a recreation room with pool table and darts board, a basic campers kitchen and the Dog & Duck pub is located within a 2 min walk.
We have a toilet & shower block plus disabled toilet and shower facilities are available.
Electric hook up (6 amp) points are available across the site.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the park.
There is a communal chemical toilet and grey water facility available to our guests.
We also have a shed that featured in The Commitments movie!
Well-behaved dogs are very welcome, but must be kept on a lead at all times.

There’s an IMC cinema, 2 shopping centres, lots of restaurants and bars - the Bastion Gallery, Michael Jackson’s favourite shop in Athlone (really!)….ask Katie to see his receipt! But there’s a lot more…..
Fishing, Boating and Lake Fun near or at Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping
Ideal for angling, boating, wind-surfing, sailing and especially canoeing, this park is bordered by a 500 meter stretch of the Breensford trout river.

Please note - we do not have organised activities and we do not rent out any accommodation or equipment - guests bring and enjoy their own. While we don't hire boats or fishing equipment, our neighbour, less than a mile away from us, at www.lakesidedayboathire.ie , does. Give them a call at (+353) 87 350 5250 for a great day out.

Bay Sports is about 15 minutes away, at Hodson Bay. It's an inflatable waterpark - heaven, once you're at least 6 years old!! (https://www.baysports.ie/)
Racing near Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping
If horse racing is your interest, within 20 miles, we have two racecourses - Kilbeggan and Roscommon! For greyhound racing, 26 miles away, in Mullingar.
If you're into motor bike racing, Walderstown Road Races - it's 5 miles/8km away!
The Irish Hot Air Balloon Championships tend to be held in the midlands, in September (www.Irishballooningassociation.com)

Heritage Visits near Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping
It is a convenient base for visiting the famous monastic settlement of Clonmacnoise, scenic walks, Athlone Castle, daily cruises on the River Shannon, golfing, horse riding and sailing locally. We're about 2 miles from access to The Old Rail Trail, too, for cycling enthusiasts - or walkers - who want to experience an off-road route designed for cyclists and pedestrians (https://athlone.ie/visit/old-rail-trail-athlone-mullingar-greenway/).
A 20 minute drive away, in Moate, Dún na Sí (pronounced Doon na Shee - translates from Irish as “the fort of the fairies”) is a unique outdoor adventure - exploring tradition, heritage, nature, and activity! Meet the ancient Irish warrior Lugh, explore the roots of Irish music, or journey through the past and discover how rural communities lived throughout time – all in a visit to Dún na Sí Amenity & Heritage Park! They have a zipline....and a big person's and small person's playground! They also host amazing seasonal festivals ......(https://dunnasi.ie/)
We're about 14 miles/22km from the ancient Hill of Uisneach, where, even if you've missed Bealtaine, you can book a tour from Wednesday to Sunday throughout the Summer and on a more curtailed basis, the rest of the year. (https://uisneach.ie/).
Bars near Lough Ree East Caravan and Camping
The Dog and Duck pub is a 2-minute walk from the site.
Glasson Village is about 2 miles (3 km) away and is renowned for two pub/restaurants - Grogans of Glasson (grogansofglasson.com) and The Villager (thevillager.ie) - both of which have won many awards.
In Athlone, there are lots of bars and restaurants, but listed in both “25 of the Most Incredible Bars in the World” and “50 Bars to Blow Your Mind” by Lonely Planet, officially recognised by the Guinness Book of Records as Ireland’s Oldest Pub - a visit to Sean’s Bar is a must ....it's less than 3 miles/ 5km away.
